One of the most memorable after dinner treats that we had while in Italy, was in a small, family run restaurant in Florence. After a truly delicious dinner, we wanted a small dessert; something light and slightly sweet to cleanse our palettes. As our server described the array of desserts that they had to offer, their homemade almond biscotti served with a small glass of sweet Marsala wine sounded perfect. A plate of crunchy almond cookies that when eaten alone are a joy, but when dipped in a glass of sweet wine, their taste was elevated. Marsala wine, a fortified wine originating in Sicily, can be substituted here with a Madeira wine or even a glass of your favorite port or sherry. Whichever wine you choose, this no-cook dessert pairing is super impressive and super tasty.
