Crostini with Fig Jam, Goat Cheese & Prosciutto

Oh happy day! I was thrilled to see that an authentic Italian market recently opened in the Atlatna neighborhood of the Virginia Highlands.  Toscano & Sons carries a marvelous selection of dried goods, condiments, oils, vinegars, pantry staples and even, oh yes, a deli counter with the best panini in the city. I have already been a handful of times and am obsessed with their variety of pastas in addition to all things Italian.  One of my most recent purchases was a Dalmatia® Orange Fig Spread.  A thick, flavorful and perfectly sweet fig preserves with a hint of orange flavors as well. Perfect on a whole wheat bagel for breakfast or in this case, as an ingredient for a savory yet sweet appetizer.  My Crostini with Fig Jam, Goat Cheese & Prosciutto is just that; a lovely crostini or even a whole grain cracker, topped with creamy goat cheese, salty prosciutto and yes, some of the fig jam.  A lovely and unique small bite that is a wonderful accompaniment to a glass of smooth red wine.
