For their last night in the Sorrento area, Leanne, my Mom and I decided to spend a casual Wednesday evening in Piano di Sorrento. We enjoyed a lovely walk from our hotel (passing over the overlook of the Bay of Naples for a quick photo opportunity) to a local restaurant named Il Terzo Girone; a locally owned Ristorante, Pizzeria, and Bierriere that I have walked by almost every day on my way home from work that I have been meaning to try. And boy am I glad we did! A lovely, homey atmosphere with a lovely dark wood bar welcoming you, along with a very friendly staff and wood-fired pizza oven.
We sat down to catch up on the details of our day along with a few pints of Italian beer. (There was certainly a lot to hear about seeing that they had a day of history, sites, and climbing at Pompeii, Mt. Vesuvius, and Herculaneum!) We then enjoyed an array of local delicacies: I had an Insalata Mista, followed by an antipasti platter of meats, mozzarella cheese, local olives and a cherry tomato crostini; Leanne had an Insalata Verde followed by a pasta with tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, and eggplant, and my Mom, a rocket salad with cherry tomatoes and parmesan cheese followed by a delightful pizza of tomatoes, mozzarella, eggplant, mushrooms, and prosciutto.
A charming local restaurant whose house red wine is a lovely light, slightly bubbly Lambruso, and the atmosphere, the food, and the location all hit the spot.
