An essential element to any Southern dinner is a helping of moist, flavorful cornbread. A perfect pairing to everything from a meat-and-vegetable plate to a bowl of gumbo, or even a spicy serving of BBQ, my favorite cornbread has a few key ingredients. Buttermilk is key—the tart taste and texture of buttermilk gives cornbread the perfect moistness and an outstanding flavor. Add-ins are also a key for me; like in this recipe, creamy cheddar cheese and spicy pickled jalapenos are added in for an extra kick. Some corn kernels or even diced green chilies would also be nice add-ins. This tasty recipe is one that stays in my recipe folder and satisfies my cornbread cravings each and every time I make it!
