A new gourmet spice shop just opened in the Virginia Highlands neighborhood here in Atlanta. ‘Savory Spice’ is a lovely shop that has spices, extracts, salts, you name it–from basic flavors to unique mixes. I left with a few of great items: hazelnut extract, pomegranate molasses, Mexican pure vanilla extract, pink peppercorns and a unique Baker’s Brew Coffee Spice. Warm spices with a touch of coffee flavoring that works really well in not only baked goods, but in this caramelized chicken recipe from the store’s website.
A quick-cooking chicken dish that gets its flavor from marinating the chicken thighs in not only the coffee spice, but brown sugar, orange juice and tangy balsamic vinegar. When you cook the chicken in its marinade, the marinade reduces and becomes syrupy; I lovely sauce with a sprinkling of green onions to serve over either rice or egg noodles.
