Christmas Day Brunch

Baked Panettone French Toast with a side of spicy sausage

In our family, no Holiday is complete without a decadent brunch.  The way we celebrated this Christmas morning was with some of our traditional favorites—classic New Orleans milk punch, Baked Panettone French Toast for an Italian touch, and spicy pork sausage patties.  Whether made with brandy or bourbon, milk punch is like eggnog, but ten times better in my opinion.  Creamy, decadent and a perfect companion for opening the gifts that Santa has generously bestowed upon us!  If you are not familiar with Panettone, it is an egg-bread from Italy studded with dried fruit and flavored with a touch of citrus.  I find that is can be a bit dry when eaten on its own, but when soaked in a lovely mixture of French toast ingredients, is a moist and utterly delicious breakfast treat.  As always, this time of year passes by so quickly, but we certainly do have some unforgettable memories to take with us!

Speaking of milk punch, I had an interesting thing at an afternoon tea this weekend – tea nog! It was tea, egg nog, and cognac. Yum! 🙂

L’Espalier – we should eat there sometime; the meals are supposed to be amazing too.
