Two of the most delightful Italian words combined into one over-the-top dessert—stracciatella (or chocolate chip-studded gelato, and my Sister Mary Lauren’s favorite flavor) and semifreddo (or semi frozen desserts.) This dessert combines the best of both worlds: a mixture of creamy, dreamy vanilla-flavored whipped cream and fluffy whipped mascarpone cheese studded with mini chocolate chips. Combined and placed in the freezer until it is just cold enough, this is a simple dessert that truly highlights two of the most delicious Italian delicacies.

Stracciatella Semifreddo
Ingredients:
- ¼ cup heavy whipping cream
- 1 Tablespoon confectioner’s sugar
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 4 oz. mascarpone cheese
- ¼ cup mini chocolate chips
Directions:
- In a medium mixing bowl combine the whipping cream, sugar and vanilla extract. Beat with a hand mixer until stiff peaks form.
- In another mixing bowl, whip the mascarpone cheese for 1 minute or until light and fluffy. Add the mini chocolate chips into the mascarpone cheese and fold in with a rubber spatula.
- Fold the whipped cream mixture into the mascarpone-chocolate chip mixture. Divide among two serving dishes and place in the freezer (covered with plastic wrap) for 1 hour before serving. Garnish with a fresh mint leaf.
