I can’t think of a more memorable way to spend a Saturday night with new friends than enjoying a dinner of regional culinary specialties and classic Italian musical performances at the local theater in Sorrento. Teatro Tasso is located right off of the main square in Sorrento and every night, they entertain a crowd of tourists from around the globe with a Sorrento musical featuring classic Italian songs like ‘Torna a Surriento’ and ‘O’Sole Mio,’ performed by a talented group of local singers and dancers. Such a uniquely entertaining and affordable way to immerse yourself in the musical culture of this great country.
The theater staff greets you with a sparkling glass of Prosecco on the terrace overlooking the Marina Grande on the Bay of Naples before escorting you to your balcony table overlooking the theater stage. Over many laughs with these new exceptionally lovely friends, we were served a dinner that began with a classic caprese salad, a pasta course of manicotti and penne with fresh zucchini and olive oil, followed by a tilapia smothered in local tomatoes and olives, and finishing up with lemon cream puffs for dessert. (Let’s not forget the delicious vino rosso, the chilled after dinner glass of Limoncello, and the warm comfort of a rich espresso.)
We left the theater humming the Italian songs that filled our minds from the fun evening and headed out on the town for one last drink in the Piazza Lauro down the street. A delightful evening all about getting to know new friends better, all while immersing ourselves in all of the culture that this charming city has to offer.
